The Manager of Social Media at OEG Sports & Entertainment is responsible for overseeing social media activities, with a main emphasis on content related to the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club.

You are the primary representative of the team on social media, overseeing hockey coverage, corporate partner activations, marketing initiatives, and related reporting.

The position is for a 14-month term, beginning in July 2024 and ending in September 2025.

Overall Duties

Deliver captivating social media content for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club, covering home games, away games, practices, community events, NHL marquee events, and press conferences on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

Work closely with the Director of Digital Media every day to discuss content strategy, posting schedule, and trends.

Generate platform growth and engagement to achieve digital department goals for the season

Assist with content creation on secondary social channels (Hunter, Oilers Community Foundation)

Support the Rogers Place and ICE District marketing team with social media content as required

Assist with the production of videos and graphics for use on the Oilers social media channels

Support sponsorship, ticketing, community, corporate PR and gaming social media content

Provide fan engagement and customer service via direct messages, replies and comments

Compile analytics reports and insights on the performance of social media content
Liaise with Oilers hockey operations on player social content and collaboration opportunities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Degree or diploma in social media, digital media, communications, journalism or a related field

Requires at least five years of experience in social media management for a sports team or well-known consumer or media brand, with a strong preference for candidates with hockey experience.

Comprehensive understanding of current and historical Edmonton Oilers teams and players
Comprehensive understanding of the National Hockey League’s teams, players, operations, and rules.

Exceptional precision, mastery of English, and strong organizational abilities

Experience in graphic design, video editing, and photography are all advantageous.
Skilled at cultivating productive relationships within a cohesive digital media team

Eager to work evenings, weekends and holidays as part of the hockey club’s schedule

Cleared for travel to away games and NHL events in Canada or the United States as needed
