Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Health Care Support Worker and obtain your Care Aide registration!

The Health Career Access Program (HCAP) is being utilized by Vancouver Coastal Health to recruit Health Care Support Workers. After successfully finishing the training opportunity, individuals who meet the requirements will be able to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. Prospective participants who want to partake in this training opportunity commit to a 12-month tenure as regular Community Health Workers at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) following their graduation.

The funding for the training program will cover the entirety of pay, tuition, and books.

As a candidate for this job advertisement, you will be evaluated for positions at Home Support facilities throughout VCH for different groups commencing in 2023 and 2024. The allocation of schools to applicants will be determined by the availability of seats.

At Vancouver Coastal Health, as a Health Care Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

Perform tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another healthcare professional who is regulated.
In accordance with the defined care plan and safety criteria, provide a range of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare services to clients, residents, relatives, and/or visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home settings.

Requirements:
Academic background and professional background

Completion of English 10 or its equivalent is required for Grade 10. Academic transcripts demonstrating a minimum of three consecutive years of study or seven consecutive years of study conducted in a country with English language systems or institutions, where English is the primary, official language and the medium of instruction, are required. Alternatively, a standardized English language proficiency test administered by an authorized assessment center may also be required.
A Class V British Columbia driver’s license is required for the following locations: NorthShore, Sea to Sky, Sechelt, Powell River, and Bella Coola.
Knowledge and skills

Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
Proficiency in interpersonal communication.
The capacity to effectively arrange and coordinate tasks.
Physical capacity to perform the responsibilities of the role.
Proficiency in operating associated machinery.
In accordance with operational requirements and the provisions outlined in the Collective Agreement and relevant statutes, the hours of work, including days off, and work area may be subject to modification. Applicants who are deemed successful may be obligated to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.

According to the prevailing Public Health Orders, effective from October 5, 2023, it is mandatory for all personnel employed by Vancouver Coastal Health to possess complete vaccination against COVID-19 or have been administered a solitary dosage of the latest and revised COVID-19 vaccine. Presenting evidence of immunization status will be necessary.
